Access to another vehicle question

Current situation:
Vehicle 1 with 2 drivers:
Main policyholder: Wife
Named driver: Husband
Vehicle 2 with 2 drivers:
Main policyholder: Husband
Named driver: Son
At renewal of policy for Vehicle 2 there is a question that asks: Do you have access to another vehicle.
Answering YES = price goes 3 times higher than answering NO.
Now because the husband drives vehicle 1 once in a blue moon I thought that he can be removed from the policy, thus being able to answer with NO on the above question and he would still be able to drive vehicle 1, because the policy for vehicle 2 allows him to drive other vehicles on 3rd party basis.
So the only difference would be that he won't have comprehensive cover for vehicle 1, but just 3rd party, correct?

Which means he would still have access to another vehicle.
That is true. It looks like I haven't clearly understood the question before.
So it actually asks if he intends to sit behind the wheel of another car and NOT if he is named on another policy.
I still can't understand why the 3 times increase in price though.0 -
and the DOC often doesn't cover cars owned by spouses/family members0

However. check the wording of the DOC very carefully. My wife has DOC but it does not apply to driving a vehicle owned by spouse/partner or other member of the household. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Looks like it is rated as if your son is actually the main driver.
Have you tried insuring the three of you to drive both cars.
The situation is as I described it originally, so no changes are required there.and the DOC often doesn't cover cars owned by spouses/family membersDriving a vehicle on DOC does not mean he has access to other vehicles. If that were the case then anybody with DOC would fall into that trap..

This one only states:Driving Other Vehicles
The policyholder may also drive, subject to the owner's permission, any motor car which does not belong to him/her, or is not hired to him/her under a hire purchase agreement and has not been seized by, or on behalf of any government or public authority. Please remember that cover for driving other cars is limited to Third Party only. There will be no cover for any loss or damage to the car being driven under this extension.0 -
The question is asked as an indication of how much use the young driver will do.
A one car family with son on policy would indicate not much access to the car.
A two car family with a son on the policy would indicate more potential access for son and higher risk and also possible indication of fronting.0 -
what does
'do you have access to another vehicle' actually mean?
a few years ago I was a little confused so I phoned the insurance company and was told it meant 'do I own a second car or have a company car for my use'
and did not mean do I have use of my wife's car0 -

Cheers. That clears it up0
