Matt on Silk

Hi all
feel a bit stupid!
I bought 2.5 litres of Dulux Silk paint thinking it was Matt, and oblivious to that I painted my chimney breast (which had Matt on before) I ran out of paint after the second coat and it is still a bit patchy....I then goes off to B&Q and bought a tin of Matt, thinking that's what the first tin was! (yes yes I know)
now obviously I can take it back, but would it look rubbish if I put the Matt onto the Silk?
cheers

We always used silk but decided to paint most of our new house in matt.
Gives a nicer finish, easier to apply/covers better.
However as you would expect it is easily marked.
Apparently you can easily paint over it but with silk, matt doesnt go on top of silk that well. I assume you would have to sand the walls before painting.
Matt can also slightly blend problem walls where as silk shows up a lot of the issues, think that relates to how silk reflects light.
We used to use matt undercoats when painting with silk.
As you have already started you may as well finish but just thought i would post my experience for anybody searching this topic in future.0 -
I made a mistake when buying Crown paint for my living/dining room a few months ago & only noticed once decorating was about to be commenced a couple of weeks ago that I'd bought 1 x 5 ltr of Matt & 1 x 5 ltr of Silk in error.
It was too late to exchange the Silk for Matt as too much time had elapsed since purchase, so I suggested to decorator that the first coat was done in Silk & the top coat in Matt. They agreed it was worth a try. Happily, it's worked an absolute treat I'm pleased to say & the finished result is just as it would have been had the 2 coats been done in Matt entirely. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
