Phone Line suddenly fixed!

Right, bit of a long winded story but bare with me!
Two weeks ago my phone line stopped working. It was completely dead, no dial tone or anything. We did all the advised checks and then contacted sky. They asked us to do the usual checks which we did. They said they had tested the line and it was showing that the fault was inside our house and they could only send a engineer out if we agreed to the costs. We wouldn't agree until they could explain how it could be our fault when we have two lines coming from the outside box. One comes in through the hallway into one box and the other goes from the outside box up the exterior wall and into the main bedroom. So if it was internal surely one or other of the boxes would work? Anyway they wouldn't answer our question so after eventually getting fed up having no phone we agreed. They made an appointment for today but we weren't going to be home so they changed it to tomorrow instead. Been checking the phone everyday just to make sure it doesn't suddenly work. Then suddenly, about an hour or two ago the phone rang once then hung up. I jumped up because it was a shock to hear it ring! Anyway, I listened to my messages and the line was very crackly. Tried ringing out and hey presto it worked. Used my mobile to ring it and it rang once then went dead. Tried this several times, moved the phone to the other socket and it kept ringing once then would go dead and there would be total silence. After trying it again a few minutes ago it now suddenly works. I can ring in, ring out and the line isn't crackly. So I am assuming that someone came out and found the fault at the main box up the road? My problem is what do I do now? I have an engineer booked for tomorrow morning so I don't have 24hours cancellation notice to give and I don't want to pay £99 call out charge for nothing!
Any advice would be gratefully received. TIA.

Doubt it - you've most likely got an intermittent fault and anything from wind to dampness could affect it. Until you verify at your master socket that there is no dial tone present - you remain at risk of the charge.0
