I did question the overtime pay a couple of months ago. When I asked when I'll be paid for it- she said I won't be because she couldn't afford to do it.

They can not afford to pay you the overtime?

That's not your concern if they have no £ to pay you.

From no one if I was you I'd do no overtime and still lodge a complaint.

The business got flooded in November so no money was coming in. The staff became the decorators putting in a lot of hours to get the place reopened.

I actually got a telling off from my boss for questioning the overtime as I was the only one who did- the others knew they would never get it. I have a recording of that conversation on my phone.

So? Does she not have insurance? How she runs the business is not your concern only how you get paid and what breaks you get etc

If you do not do anything about it that's up to you but that's why she does this as no one stands up to her.

Ok some will come along and say you will be fired but she can not fire you for asking for pay and a break

Poppy, you have some serious thinking to do.

Keep quiet - keep your job = no change.

Stand up for your rights - probably lose your job = change.

Now the first is really down to how you really feel about yourself and if you can continue to work there.
The second is a very long, emotional and frustrating battle, with NO guarantee of the wrong being put right or ANY compensation.

I would sit down, think about your options and decide on your future. Let us know what you want to do and we can help steer you in the right direction.

Try not to stir up / say anything that may put you in an unfavourable position. What and how you do things from here on in will harm / benefit your side of events.

Have a brew and get thinking ;)

keep quiet, keep your job but apply for anything (and I mean anything) to get out of there

Guys, thank you so much for the advice. It's good to get some sensible answers. :j

I could go on forever on the wrong-doings in this place. Maybe when I get out of here, I can bring them all up. I have a possible job interview on the horizon and have applied for a job with the competition! :rotfl:I'm not the first to do that either.

Ref: the long and emotional battle if I stand up for my rights, quite frankly would I think, be easier than the daily battle of putting up with the rubbish here. I know what I have to do, it's making the first move that will be difficult despite the reasons behind it!

    Thank you so much everyone!

you might prefer being receptionist for a large company rather than bar. They tend to stick to rules about breaks etc

i would keep quiet and put up with it until you have another job offer
