Fixed contract gas/electricity

I changed my service supplier last Dec for a fixed contract until March 2014.
In Feb they increased my monthly payment by £10.00.:(
I am retired and on a fixed income so this was a shock to my system..........
Now they send me an e.m. end of every month requesting a gas/electricity meter reading.
What I dont understand is why, if my contract is fixed, is it necessary to send them these readings every month?

Fixed contract usually means the price of your energy is fixed. You still have to pay for however much you use. There is no such thing as an "unlimited energy for £x/month" deal, so they need meter readings to send you a bill.0

Agree fixed just means the price per unit of energy is fixed, if you want to keep the bills low you need to keep your usage low. Regular meter readings ensure your direct debit payment (method of spreading the cost through the year) is in line with the amount of energy you are using.
The biggest energy guzzlers are heating, power showers, tumble drier, laundry at higher temperatures. It's been a long cold winter so most households have used more energy this year.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
