When Computer Starts Up Hard Drive only Defined as "Hard Drive IDE"

I('ve just installed a new motherboard.

When i start up the computer and it runs through its first prelimanry checks, it only defines the two hard drives as "Hard Drive IDE" and not by there names...

Needless to say just after the windows logo comes up and it starts loading the blue screen of death comes up.

Is there any obvious problem or should i just unplug it all and start agin

Have you reinstalled windows or at the very least done a windows repair?

No i haven't. Is that a necessity when installing another motherboard?

My master hard drive as a lot of information that i dont want to lose... would reinstalling windows delete it all?

Also, how do i do a windows repair if i cant get past bios?

Boot from your windows cd, doing a repair should keep your docs intact although I wouldn't necessarily guarantee it. Preferably (in my experience) you should do a complete clean install (lose everything) when changing motherboard. I think you would only ever get away with not doing anything to windows is if you are changing the motherboard for an identical model.
