My son who is travelling in Central America wants to send me some photos. Can he do it using the internet cafe? I told him it will take a long time as I do not think they have broadband there? Also I thought you need the software to be able to do it or is it possible for him to use the photo software that came with the computer? Thanks

Most internet cafes do have a fast connection.

Most internet cafes use dumb clients, so there is no Floppy or CD drive.

Normally he would give the disk (floppy or CD) to the owner who will help him out with sending the pictures.

Hopefully there shouldnt be too much of a communication barrier, this could easily be done with neanderthal grunts and gestures pointing to disks etc. (it worked for me in Brazil!!)

He won't need any software, the pictures will just attach/upload as simple files.

What may be worth looking at is some WiFi hotspots (airports etc).
He could then simply purchase some time and use his own laptop as he would normally.
They weren't about when I was there but that was a few years ago.

most digital cameras, don't need any software to copy pictures to a pc,
as soon as you attach them they appear as a new drive (on xp and later computers). then you can drag and drop them, or upload them from that drive.

I find picassa is quiet a good bit of software to uplaod pictures from, and they'll be visible and home and downloadable from there if you have the same google account. (you get 1gb free storage).

It also lets you do fixes to the pictures, which is very useful,

you will need to download/install it on the machines you use it on of course.

good luck and all the best with his travels,
