Your bank or building society can make the cancellation up to and including the due date, but try not to leave it until the last minute or you run the risk of a payment being made. Remember that cancelling the Direct Debit simply stops paying the organisation. If you carry on receiving the goods or service then you will have to organise an alternative payment method.
Deleted, but only cause it sounded like I was criticising Dither, which I wasn't.

Thanks neko...I guess it was too late, but cos the OP said it was cancelled "last week" I presumed a reasonable amount of notice had been given.

I still think Banks make up the rules as they go along, depending on which day it is and what they had for breakfast :rotfl:0 -

Yeah, so true. :T
In this case sat is a bit late though, as its not even a working day. They would have been able to cancel it had it been done over the telephone; I assume because someone has to process internet requests and they may have less staff at the weekend. God knows. As you say, banks are usually a law to themselves.BCSC Member 70:j

I did the cancelling of all non priority direct debits on Friday afternoon. On Saturday I got an email from Paypal, of all people, telling me my bank had "disputed my direct debit" or some such thing. I thought it was a bit odd because I haven't made any paypal transactions in a few weeks, so why would they have even been =near my bank account! Then I presumed that on cancelling a DD, the bank let's the originator know.
I dunno, it's all a mystery!0
