Aaarrrgh my poor budget!

The bloody bank have paid out a £52 DD to one of my creditors...a DD that I cancelled last week!

So now I have paid one effing creditor but none of the others = favoured one, AND I'm *this* close (indicating a teeny tiny gap here!) to not being able to pay my goddam rent!

Aaaaaaaaaaarrgh it was very very finely tuned, and now look what they've done!

The direct debit guarantee is there for a reason user.

Make sure you telephone them straight away & make a complaint. I'm sure they will try to say that you have to get the refund from your creditor (as if that's likely) however they have made the error so give them hell!!!!

Not sure if you'll get the refund from your bank but it's worth a try

It seems I cancelled it too late.

Ah well, what's done is done.

BAAB - I've not declared bankrupt yet, no. Trying to get things together, fill the forms in and get the fee.

I've got a huge load of paperwork related to the flat we used to own, and sold last year. When we sold it, I wondered out loud if I could throw it all out, or would I ever need it at any point again. The anwer lies before me - I need it to fill the B R forms in. Thank goodness I erred on the side of caution!

user55, I didn't think there was a 'too late' with DD's and SO's. They can recall them the same day they leave your account. I did this with a SO to one of my creditors, phoned up the bank the day it left my account and asked them to give it back...and they did!

Just wondered if your bank are trying to fob you off that's all.

I've done a quick google about DD's and you can ask for it to be cancelled at any time...no time limit specified. You do have rights, you are guranteed a full and immediate refund. I would go back to them and insist they credit your account.

I think this is true if you notify them by speaking to them. Did you cancel the DD online or by telephone/popping in to the branch?

I did it online. When I checked my account on Saturday it had definitely disappeared from my list of direct debits, but they paid it on Monday.

The info I've read implies it doesn't make any difference how you cancel it....banks eh!

Yeah, i think I can see why they said it was too late (in terms of internet banking at least). At least you know next time to call.

If you need to cancel a Direct Debit, simply write to your bank or building society. It is also a good idea to send a copy to the organisation concerned. Your bank or building society can make the cancellation up to and including the due date, but try not to leave it until the last minute or you run the risk of a payment being made. Remember that cancelling the Direct Debit simply stops paying the organisation. If you carry on receiving the goods or service then you will have to organise an alternative payment method.
