The next market down turn!

Realising my investment issues are trivial in comparison with the potential death and maiming of millions but ….
It seems North Korea is determined to push the world to the very edge of nuclear war. I wondered when people thought this would/might impact the markets, and in what way? It seems to have had no or very little impact up to now. But surely a major disruption to South Korea’s industrial machines and economy would create issues?
I hope like I’m sure we all do that commonsense prevails but will the markets not start getting nervous at some point?

I believe past performance is a good guide to future performance

Pure brinkmanship by a new(ish) leader attempting to stamp his authority and gain capital from his foes.
Happens periodically and I think is factored in the markets.
If the N button is ever pushed (again) stock markets would be the least of my my worries.0 -

So you think it will not impact the markets at all?I believe past performance is a good guide to future performance :beer:0 -
It has been reported that North Korea hasn't started to put its military into any sort of action. And they have started spouting in this way a number of times before (although with the father). So it seems like its all talk - again.
Fingers crossed the situation will stay this way for everyone's sake. And it looks like this is what will come to pass too0 -

Your signature might give you a clue. Take a look at the last few times this happened. See if anything significant happended to the FTSE (I guess this is the 'market' you're concerned with?).
Clearly if any sort of military action does occur (I cant see it - China and Russia would stamp all over North Korea - never mind South Korea or the U.S) then the local markets will be hit, which may then hit the wider markets. But we're a long, long way from this step IMO no matter what the press will have us think.
Whilst the North Korean public may be suppressed and have little knowledge of the outside world the leaders certainly do and they know any military action would be suicide for them.
Again just my thoughts..0 -

Certainly not !!! I'm heavily SE Asia invested. Of course I have an interest in the well being of the UK so wish the FTSE well but it is way down the list
Agreed the final outcome is likely to be as you predict but looking back markets get easily spooked on possibilities.
Think I'll take a conservative view for a few weeks :beer:I believe past performance is a good guide to future performance :beer:0 -

I'd guess even if they do get spooked it'll be a blip until everyone sees sense.
Fingers crossed for your investments.0 -
Why would we take money out if we think a nuclear war would happen?
Razor blades and potassium cyanide don't cost much.0 -

Its normal for these regimes to spout off about their plans for world domination, show their military might by firing (or misfiring) a few missiles in the air whilst wearing comedy outfits.
Its not really in their interests to push the self destruct button, and China will not let them anyway.
A problem closer to home, ie the Eurozone is more likley to rear its ugly head again, if Spain and Italy may, as expected need a bailout. I expect this to be a problem again within 6 months.0 -

My concern is more that the war may start accidentally. The idiot only has to launch a test missile and it goes off course and it will be decision time. Or he has a nuclear accident and then blames the US.
Unfortunately I'm approaching the end of my input to investment life and am spending like crazy to enjoy my active live. Diving with sharks next month. Focuses the mind to dangers somewhatNicholas-bloody-Parsons wrote: »A problem closer to home, ie the Eurozone is more likley to rear its ugly head again, if Spain and Italy may, as expected need a bailout. Agreed which is why I looked to SE Asia and EMI believe past performance is a good guide to future performance :beer:0 -
Pick any year at random from the last century, and if you look at the headlines from back then you'll find plenty of "OMG the world's going to end" scare stories.
The markets don't react because they've seen it all before.0
