Credit report woes

Hi,

I am looking for a little advice (Im also not sure if this is in the right place so let me know if i need to post elsewhere).

I have been trying to increase my perceived credit score for a few years and am really struggling. I have reports from CheckMyFile and any issues I have found, I dealt directly with the agency to get them fixed. For example a black mark for a missed payment that didnt exist. I have closed down any unused accounts and got on the electoral register. All issues I have found have now been corrected. But I just cant seem to get a credit card.

I made 1 late payment on a credit card in 2007 but surely 1 late payment more than 6 years ago is not still harming me? I earn a decent wage (30k+) and have healthy finances (an unsecured loan for 10k that will be paid off in June) but I have just followed the link on MSE for poor credit balance transfer cards - This card is available for people who have CCJ's - and it gave me a 20% chance of success. I just cant seem to increase my chances and am worried about applying again as this will harm my score further. This is really stressing me out because I want to get a mortgage next year and am worried my score will affect what mortgage i can get.

Any advice would be much appreciated....

The 'checkmyfile' report is a simplified version of the 'proper' reports you could get by going directly to the CRA. See the T&Cs, especially condition 10...

Suggest you get your reports directly from Experian and Equifax and see what they say.

    Could be Electoral Roll issues?

Could be considerably more than the widely recommended 2 searches per 6 months?

Could be grammatical error on report preventing something being properly traced, e.g. ID/address/employment

Could be your credit is actually very good and therefore you do not meet the subprime card's target profile so rejected for them? try the Barclaycard soft search which might give a better overview of your credit profile.
