Newspaper reports

Why, when newspapers report a tragedy such as the couple who were overcome by carbon monoxide fumes in their boat,or any court case, do they have to print the value of their homes. It makes not one iota of differennce to the report, so why do they do it? ( Rant over;))

If you imagine every journalist has a daily target to meet, there should be no surprise most Newspapers have a great deal of irrelevent detail in print.

The greater the daily column / inches the better the journalist ?!

This is something I have thought for many, many, years.

When at school we were asked, in English, to write a piece in the style of a newspaper story. The spurious house price thing was my primary means of making it sound as if it had come from a paper.

Another news moan: Why is it that whenever anyone is murdered, it is always referred to as a 'brutal' murder. Arguably all murders are brutal - even if not, probably only those using a painless toxin could be considered otherwise.

Chantel 21 (34C-24-33) says she thinks that the Korean peninsular is on a knifepoint.

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

    On a knife-edge.

(Maybe Chantel 21 (34C-24-33) is actually a lot more clever and subtle than she is being given credit for and is implying that the situation is one stage worse than a knife-edge.)
