A bit stupid but advice gladly received...

I was transferring some money between my accounts and managed to accidentally send some money to my Mums credit card...

I got married last year and she bought a couple of things for me on the card and I paid her back straight to the card hence why I had it saved in my online banking...

So-

It was a faster payment so I understand there is not return button on the transaction.

The online banking team person at natwest told me there's nothing they can do...

Am I going to have to admit my stupidity and get my mum to call her ccard company (Halifax)

And if she does any idea if they will be able to return the money?

All advice welcome. Cheers.

    Yes.

They certainly will if it's credit balance now. Otherwise, this depends on their mood.

I'm afraid, you'll have to come clean to your mum, as only she can contact the CC.

If the payment left a positive balance on the account, then the CC will return these monies, usually by cheque. If the transfer paid only part of what is owed (with a debt still remaining), the card might not want to return the cash.

Did your mum owe any money on the credit card you sent the money to?
If she did i don't think there is much you can do but not 100% sure.
If she didn't owe any money then ask her to call up and ask if they can reverse the money back if they can't just ask her to do a balance transfer?
    Hope i helped :)
  • I'm expecting she does owe some money and I doubt I pushed her into credit balance.

    Damn.

If they can balance transfer what I owe on my own credit card that wouldn't be too bad...

I can accept a BT charge or an admin fee

I guess apart from that just hope they're in a good mood then!!!

Why haven't you spoken to your mum yet? Maybe she even has some cash she could return to you, or if not, she can do a BT from your card and you pay her back the fee.
  • It only happened around 11pm last night and according to Halifax they're customer service was closed they opened at 8am so I'll ask her to give them a call when I can duck out of work for a few mins.

    Will report back.
  • She spoke to Halifax and they advised will be fine can transfer it back but funds have been allocated yet so my mum has to call them back tomorrow. Phew
