sole trader can I use a freelancer?

I am a sole trader doing some design work. I need some advice on a particular design I have been asked to do.
Someone I know is able to advise me on this and I would like to pay him. He will not be an employee and it is for only one piece of work for about £200 - £300 one off payment for consultancy. Is this allowed?

I am of course registered with HMRC as a sole trader.

Thank you.

Of course you are. Make sure he raises an invoice to you and pay him by BACS or cheque so there is a paper trail.
