Or the guy who has responded to every single thing I have offered (clearly selling stuff on) with 'I will have this - send me your address and I will let you know when I'll be collecting'.

    Cretin.

I do completely agree with you, especially as you name yourself as a mum, so have one or more children to factor into the whole delivery/collection time-frame.

I've had my fair share of t*ts messaging about stuff I've offered c/o Freecycle but put it down to the fact that, however hard the Mods try, it's nigh-on impossible to keep ALL of the idiots out of an open forum (how often have some of us seen postings on certain MSE threads from posters that are blatantly the same fools who've been kicked off previously, only to post the same rubbish under different User IDs?! :wall: )

That said, however, I responded to a recent Freecycle post, which asked if anyone had a certain unwanted item. I had said unwanted item and contacted the poster. They came to collect the item last night and were so genuinely grateful and heartfelt in their thanks that I'm willing to put up with the numerous w*nkstains on Freecycle for moments like that. ;)

ive had good and bad with freecycle

the good are the picking up on time thanking me and even got a freezer and a microwave off there as i had posted offers

got a baby bouncer ready for the arrival of my niece was expecting a old one and turned up and it was almost new and was very expense originally also got a bag of baby proofing stuff that was still in all it original packaging.

    the bad
people not turning up and being rude

someone turning up and not knowing what they are collecting as i delete the item name in all the emails to try ween out those who ask for the sake of asking.

someone getting mouthy with me as i let them have the rug but not the mirror or chair i was offering which i made clear several time they had already gone to other people before she turned up as i wanted to try benefit as many people as i could as all 3 items had lots of interest

people only wanting the mobile i was offering if it was a iphone after giving a sob story about how they cant afford a phone and even had someone say they changed their mind about coming as cash converters and cex would only offer up to £1 for it so not worth the petrol money.

people who had collecting from me before turning up at the door expecting the item without even contacting me.

one guy always replying to my post saying he will take it off my hands for petrol cost (asking for between £5-£60)

one thing that seems to happen recently is people posting the exact wanted ad i posted minutes after i posted. it almost like if they have a chance of getting x i want it first

also retro gaming consoles must be worth the petrol cost as i see the same poster asking for retro consoles and games on loads of different boards some 100s of miles from where the poster claims to be from

Sadly the Bedford group seems to be managed by the forces of apathy.

I've put a couple of the things I was offering on Freegle onto Gumtree instead and they've been bought for token sums and collected on time. The carrycot and a few other bits can go outside tomorrow as the weather forecast is good and hopefully passing persons will adopt them :)

And for the record, I don't object to people taking things on Freegle to sell on IF they're honest about it and show some common courtesy when asking for the item. I don't care if you're a one legged war veteran with learning difficulties, a sick dog and seventeen ragged children, if you email me saying 'I want this item, gimme' then you don't stand a chance.
If you lend someone £20 and never see them again, it was probably £20 well spent...

To be honest I can't remember the last time I used freecycle or fregle or the other local one.

I have got some lovely things through this in the past, always turned up on time, polite, and then sent an email to thank them, and or left a little present, chocolates or homemade jam etc.

The issue for me was offering items.
The rude emails, here's my mobile call me and I will tell you when I'm coming.... Really?

The sob stories as well, it's almost like there is a competition to see who can provide the most moving reason....doesn't work

The constant issue of people not turning up to collect at the agreed time

People who turn up who clearly can't take the item. We listed quite a few full sized internal doors, gave measurements etc. this guy turns up in a car full of kids (literally full), he then spends the next 30 minutes rearranging the kids, trying to shove doors around them, trying to strap the doors to the roof (no roof rack), and only gave in when I went back out and told him that clearly they weren't going to fit and maybe come back another day, never returned.

I find it much easier now to list it on eBay for 99p or less (enough to cover fees). It seems to me that it's psychological... If you go to a free site then a lot of people don't feel an obligation to collect, it's free after all. But if you win the item for 99p then it's a bargain and people have "ownership" so turn up as agreed. I had a very old widescreen CRT tv and gave up putting it on freecycle as no one ever turned up as they had promised, placed it on eBay 3 days later and £1 richer a very nice man came and collected, really pleased with the win but said he felt bad for winning at 99p, I did tell him we'd been trying to give it away and couldn't but we're putting the 99p into a charity pot instead. So it's eBay all way for me now I'm afraid

For a laugh some of you should have a read of the "Balloons on Sticks" thread over on the Ebay part of the forum.

I once offered a Freeview box .The guy who took it later emailed me again. Apparently it did not provide him with any more channels than he already had . He wanted me to collect it back from him ! Some other offers have been more successful

I also suspect this could be the case
