Leggy tomatoes - do they ever come good in the end

Mrbadexample's advice is correct...
In my experience, start later than everyone else! This year me and my mates did our annual exchange of plants. He started out around 4 weeks earlier than me (I put mine in earlier April) and his 'donation's' were pretty leggy. Bigger/taller, but leggy. Just down to the growing conditions - light and heat. Since he is by far the better gardener I was really surprised! No harm done though, all will produce in the end. You can use that trick of 'mrbadexamples' with other seedlings too.0 -
Unfortunately the don't start late rule seems not to work with chillis, at least when growing the non annuum species of Capsicum. In that case the earlier the better.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Mrbadexample - what a fab example that you showed with your pictures! Thank you.
I did very well last year with my tomatoes, I couldn't believe it! I thought inially that they had gone leggy but yours don't sound leggy, mine were quite tall and spindly. I did the same as advised and repotted up to the true leaves.
If you don't eat yogurt which I don't but boyfriend does, I just couldn't force him to eat enough
. I went to poundland and bought about 30 plastic drinking cups for a £1 and punched holes in the bottom. Cheap and good size and I also bought lots of fleece for a £1.
I haven't tried loo roll cardboard yet but I will do.0
