Overclockers & Indian Call Centre

I have never had the 'pleasure' of receiving a phone call from any call centre telling me that 'You have a computer virus which is making your pc run slowly'. I felt quite smug about this:D but did have a laugh about the antics of some of Techie forum users when they'd received a call.
Low and behold, within messaging my landline telephone number to Overclockers, asking them to call me to sort out a problem with the bundle I purchased from them, less than 45 minutes later I get a call from a call centre with a bloke who had a pronounced Indian accent.
I'm ex-directory with Virgin Media, I NEVER give out my landline phone number, just my mobile/cell, but I was desperate to sort my pc problem (still unsorted by the way) and took a punt & gave the landline instead of my mobile.
COINCIDENCE?
I have caller id so I don't normally pick up on 08** etc numbers (I don't really recieve many). As I was hoping Overclockers would phone me (they haven't) and the number showing was 0114 236 0311, naturally I thought it was Overclockers phoning me:mad: obviously not.
Lesson learnt: only give out my mobile number.:T

good post. Timely as these are on the increase. It's difficult to know who to complain to. But I really appreciate the warning.
thanks again0 -
How did you message Overclockers the number?
IIRC they do all CS in house, so it's quite unlikely to be related to them.
It sounds like a coincidence, given I get a call from PPI, "it has come to the governments attention that utility companies...", and "This is Windows/Virgin/BT calling" virtually every day.0 -

Coincidence? Maybe. I NEVER get those sales calls you have listed in your reply.:T The very FEW that I do get are RARE and dont start with landline looking number but 08**.:j I hope my comment helps :T0 -
May I ask what is your PC problem, maybe people on here could help.
Note about the phone call, you'll now be lucky to get one every other day.
I've received 3 in 1 week.0 -
