Shock ... Diesel cheaper than Petrol

A couple of days ago I saw a couple of petrol stations selling unleaded and diesel for the same price .... but today, for the first time in many years i saw Unleaded at 96.9 and Diesel at 95.9!!! Came as a bit of a shock. If I'm right, the last time diesel was cheaper than unleaded was back in the early 90s.

Is this likely to be a future trend or is it just a one off???

similar prices here too, does beg the question whether diesel really is going to be the wise choice going forward

Ive noticed a similar thing too when ive filled up, i always thought diesel was more expensive

Diesel is less refined than Petrol. So, I wonder why diesel should not be cheaper than Petrol.

In fact in some countries (eg. India) diesel is substantially cheaper than petrol.

I was under the impression that diesel is cheaper in ALL countires (except here of course)

Refinery capacity - or rather lack thereof versus the rapid increase of diesel cars on the roads of the UK.

that's why several years ago diesel was substantially cheaper because few cars used it

So, diesel nowchaper than petrol all over the UK - many articles on this topic are now out of date- does anyone know WHY it is now cheaper and will this last?
