Afternoon all, my 0% is coming to an end but DH has a Virgin card with a 8k limit empty. We are going to try and see if they will offer him a 0% BT deal to transfer my balance over.
Has anyone else done this and think it's likely?
Also does anyone have a tel number for the retentions dept? I did an online chat with them and they gave me the number then but i cannot find the conversation!
Any help much appreciated..

Well.....that was strange and i guess answers my own question.....
DH called Virgin and got through firstly to the automated service. When it asked what he was calling for, he said 'to close the account' thinking that he would get through to a real life person for retentions. It took the card number and then said 'your account has been closed'
He then requested to go through to a person instead of machine and asked about existing customer offers, they said as the account is now closed they can't offer anything!!
Lesson learnt there.
I've now opened a 0% card to transfer the balance onto.
For info, i earn 32k a year
1 x CC with a limit of 11.5k balance owing 3.4k
1x CC with approx 6k limit 4.5k owing
And i've just been approved another CC with a 12k limit!
Good job i'm only using them to tart (hopefully correct terminology)DEBT FREE AND PROUD'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt'0 -
best not to use the automated service then - I have a few mbna cards and phoned to close one when they announced being up for sale
Does the Virgin card customer service use of hip/cool dude language extend to this type of interaction ?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Fortunately/unfortunately not
When we closed a Barclaycard a yr or so ago, they tried every tactic to prevent us from closing it!DEBT FREE AND PROUD'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt'0 -
the auto close has caught a few peopleDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

mbna don't seem keen to keep customers who want to leave.
I recently managed to close my amazon card using the automated phone system without anyone ever intervening to see if they could persuade me to stay, much to my surprise.
I have successfully haggled better BT deals out of mbna but the last time I tried (a few weeks ago), they simply wouldn't budge from the standard 0% for 12 months with 3.5% fee. It's not worth stoozing at that level. So now, for the first time in many years, I have no mbna cards at all.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

I know, it's very strange they don't seem to want to keep existing customers!
I must admit it's the first time we've ever encountered an automated system to close an account. Usually you have to stand firm to prevent them keeping it open!DEBT FREE AND PROUD'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt'0
