Gas Meter & Supplier Problems
Options
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help with a British Gas pre pay meter problem?
Long story short as of end of Feb, our meter seemed to be using an obscene amount of credit. Think we're on over £200 just for March!
I obviously know gas is expensive and prices have recently risen by 6% but still this seem an excessive amount of money considering we are quite good and only have the heating on when needed.
Anyway my mum noticed that the meter screen had 'B1' on it and so contacted our supplier who then told her that this was a budget setting and half of all the money loaded onto the machine was now stored as we had mistakenly pressed the black button.
They told her to let all credit run out, put her card in, press the black button and hey presto all the 'saved up' funds would be then on the meter.
That was not the case! She called back and they have now said it's not a budget setting and they think the battery is running low.
Where's all the money going then? All they could say was 'Don't know', great!
Has anyone ever come across this before? They are sending an engineer out tomorrow but thought it might be worth asking on here also.
All help very appreciated!
Thanks

Is there debt on the meter? Are you using your own key/card, and not that of the previous occupier? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Any further feedback on this? My meter is now showing B1 and I've never seen it before.

B1 is letting you know the battery is running down. I only found this out recently. It may progress to show Battery or Battery Fail. It will not affect how much gas is being used in any way so you will need to look elsewhere for that answer.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
