Fridge freezer not suitable what are my rigths

I am just about to buy an upright freezer for the garage and I stumbled across this business of not keeping them in the garage. I wanted a Samsung, with a temp display on the door and a clever ice maker thingy, but, as mentioned, Beko seem to be the only ones suitable (says on their website they operate down to -15) so I have to have one of those. I've watched a vid on u-tube and they look as though the flap down thing won't last very long and there are no bells or whistles. Does anyone know if the likes of Samsung, Bosch and Siemens have plans to catch up with Beko. It seems to me they are missing a very big trick here....and how come the lower end of the market can produce a suitable for garages one and the higher end boys can't? Seems crazy:huh::huh:0

As you are after a freezer, then they can usually be kept in a garage without problem.
The problem arises when you put a fridge-freezer in the garage.
Most combined fridge-freezers have just one thermostat, so when the fridge interior reaches the set temperature, no further cooling of the freezer part takes place.
In winter the fridge may well stay at the desired temperature without further cooling, so this means that the freezer part will gradually thaw to the ambient temperature.
As to them missing a trick, most fridge-freezers are kept in a warmish place, so they do not need the protection of a second thermostat.
It would just increase the cost to have a second thermostat for no real benefit.0 -
Do you live in Britain ?
I am only asking this because you say that it is not working properlyand the engineer said it is not suitable because of the low temps.
As far as I know we have not had a low temp in the Uk in the last few months.Owing on CC £00.00 :j

That'll be because the thread was started in April - check the dates at the top of each post.0 -

It probably would be O.K, but, according to John Lewis, if there was a problem, the manufacturer may no honour the warranty0

AND if the extra thermostat increases the cost, how come the Beko ones are amongst the cheapest? True, most fridge-freezers are kept in kitchens, but most freezers are kept in garages or utility rooms ( ours is unheated and gets very cold...around 5c)0

I wanted the Samsung RZ 80FBBB. Checked with John Lewis, but they said its not suitable. Thanks for replying, by the way.0

Well, if everything else is equal, something that has two thermostats will cost more to make that the same thing with one thermostat.AND if the extra thermostat increases the cost, how come the Beko ones are amongst the cheapest?
And as I said, generally there is no problem keeping a freezer in an unheated garage.True, most fridge-freezers are kept in kitchens, but most freezers are kept in garages or utility rooms ( ours is unheated and gets very cold...around 5c)
This problem generally only occurs with fridge-freezers.
Are you planning to purchase a freezer or fridge-freezer?0
