Negotiation over completion date

Hi,
we are first time buyers and are ready to exchange. wE currently in negotitations with the vendors. They are inisiting on a completion date and we would prefer a week later as we are away at a wedding on the date they have requested.
Having never done this before should we remain firm and say no. Who has final say? They have given no reason for this date yet we have told them taht we are away.
any advice welcome

No-one has final say. You need to agree. If you cant agree you cant exchange and the sale doesnt happen.

Where are you living at the moment ? As first time buyers, there's nothing to say you actually have to move in on the day you complete - you could always comeplte one week and move in the next.

    Exactly what p00hsticks says ^^
We didn't move into our house for several weeks after completion as we had another few weeks of rent to pay anyway and needed to decorate.
Having got to the point of almost exchanging, it would be a shame to let your social occasions get in the way.

you don't need to move in on your completion date, you can move in later.

what does influence your completion date is when you will have the funds available.

Having said that, it is a buyer's market and any seller would be a fool to risk a sale falling through over a disagreement about a completion date.
