Hi there,
I'm about to enter into the minefield of cashback credit cards.
Any tips/advice. I see there seems to be a limit? Is there any calculator anywhere I could look at potential gains?
Shopping £3000 a year
Petrol £720 a year

If you haven't had a credit card before you aren't likely to have enough of a credit history to be approved for a prime card.
There is one credit card that can help, however:

Ignore the APR, as you won't be charged any interest so long as you
Don't use the card for cash withdrawals
Don't exceed your credit limit
Pay the full statement balance before the due date every month
Once you've had this card for a year, paying it in full each month and on time, you'll have built up a little credit history so should find it easier to get a card elsewhere.
TBH, even if you've got good credit, it's a great cashback card - £3% back on everything is cracking, and the cap of £100 a year fits your spending pattern almost perfectly.
I only took mine out in December and have already earned the £100.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Aqua is a great card for your circumstances, get a foot on the credit ladder, build up some history and earn some cash to boot.
I maxed out my Aqua cashback in a couple of months (as I use it to pay for fuel for my limited company).
I then applied for a Capital One Aspire World card which gives 5% (up to £100) then tiered amounts thereafter, and have maxed that out too so will soon be looking for my next cashback card.
In the meantime I am using the American Express Gold Rewards card - need to spend £2k in 3 months to get the 12,000 rewards points (equal to £120 in Amazon vouchers) plus the Foursquare promotions which are probably worth about £100 to me.
I'd go for the Aqua card first though0 -
Unfortunately it appears the Aqua cashback card is no longer available to new applicants?

Ah, well spotted, it does look like it's been properly pulled now (it's not been shown on their list of available cards for a few weeks, but you could still apply by going directly to the page about the card, and applying from there - but the apply link on that page no longer works).0 -
Got in just in time then, I'd been putting off applying for ages and only got one last month!0
