    I've been Money Tipped!
I have a dog and two cats and live in a rented house. This is my third rental in 5 years. I have always gone private - ads in local paper - as most agencies just say "no" when you ask if you can have pets.

I have always said if any damage is done I will pay for it and the landlords have been happy with that

  • I had 5 cats and I was having all sorts of problems trying to rent through agents, one estate agency wanted 6 months rent as a deposit, to allow for any possible damage!!! I told him they were cats, not tigers, then told him where to go and how to get there!!

I had more success through private ads, and found a landlady who is a cat lover herself, and she's been brilliant, even allowing me to add more cats to the fold when some have unfortunately passed on. I advise to place an ad in the flats wanted section, and explain your circumstances. Good luck!!

my son has a dog and he has always managed to persuade the landlords to allow him to keep her as he has provided references for the dog as well as himself. He has to pay an extra deposit and agree to have carpets cleaned and not allow her on firniture etc. Also she isn't allowed to stay in house unattended. This is all very fair and by putting this to landlords he has managed to win them over and keep his dog with him. You didn't say if your dog would be left alone or go to work with you.

my friend lives a rental property, initally the property was advertised "no pets" after a quick call to the landlord he agreed she could have a dog but she would have to pay an extra £500 deposit
