Crazy-guy's right - if you get the job, be punctual, polite and efficient, and prove your worth to them. No need to disappear up your own backside with plans.Nelly's other Mr. Hyde0

It really depends on the place, when i used to work at a supermarket, i used to go to the manager "have you got any extra hours for blah blah" and 9/10 times i got it.
But worst comes to the worst phil, you can always get a temp job to put it up to full time hours or alternatively get another job to supplement it. But asking to work there free of charge oh my word - if someone said that where i've worked you'd get laughed out the place - You'd be playing right into those evil capitalist hands!0 -
You see that is the pain because it is weekend and half a day weekday, so that half a day therefore makes it very hard to get a weekday job too.
I am only thinking of giving my time for nothing for a about 3 months to build up my experience in an attempt to break into a role with better and more hours.:beer:0 -
My son works at Matalan (after nearly three years of unemployment - deep joy!). He has worked there for two weeks, before that he had two weeks job placement from the jobcentre.
He is only contracted for eight hours, but the first week he did 29 hours and the second week 24 (and could have done more, but one day he had to wait in for the man to come and mend the boiler). He was told when they offered him the job that there would be plenty of overtime available.
However, when I worked for a Local Authority, you worked your contracted hours and that was that, unless it was VERY unusual circumstances.
So I think who you work for has a great bearing on whether there is overtime available or not.
I would certainly ask for it though.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

You could get a job at Matalan for eight hours to supplement your income from the Uni???(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Phil, you are unbelievable from all the treads you have posted and been given advice on almost the same subject and you carry on and on with ifs and maybes  Yes I know we are in phils world which is different to the rest of the world which is reality.
First of all lets see if you get offered this job before going on to thinking of anotherLet's see if/when you get your degree and go on from there, and do not forget a few threads back when I told you about the DISABILTY EMPLOYMENT ADVISER at the job centre and Disability New Deal where they will find you a placement which is suited to your talents and needs, and that of the employer for a period of time to see if it is suitable and they will help you get a job!
I have noticed before on other threads that when people give you advice you ignore it or soon forget about it, do not act upon it and carry on with yet another thread with the same subject or content!0 -

No, I have not forgotten what you said. I will go down that route if this does not work out. I thought it was a good thing I am trying to improve my life rather than going how bad it is.
I am trying to be positive and hopeful that is all. Maybe I do over think and worry about things I know.:beer:0 -
Hey, sorry to go off topic, but the thread I'm about to refer to has been locked.
I just came across the thread from the other night regarding changing a £20 note for the bus fare. I was just wondering if you'd considered 'borrowing' the money from your 20p and 10p savings? It would have saved all that hassle!
I know it's been and gone but perhaps a thought for next time0
