Looking for some advice

Hi Guys
A little background, am 30 married with 2 kids under 2. We have approx $40k in gold and silver stored at the bank and $10k in cash and $10k in some mining shares.
From the UK but have been working in Vietnam for 5yrs, I have just been promoted and as such my salary has increased.
We are pretty bad at saving, the last few years all our spare cash has gone on exploring Asia, nice hotels etc but we have decided that has to stop so we can put some money behind us, nobody knows when the job here will finish.
We have $5k a month to save/invest, if you had this how would you split it and what investments would you choose?
