Bobbi Brown make up is lovely.
I like Laura Geller, that's really light. It's only available online or via eBay if you know what you want. You can buy sets that come with instructions.Debt free other than a mortgage but still always wanting to save money :j.
Busy saving for my wedding July 2014.

I love some benefit make up but my friend got roped in for a "makeover" at Benefit counter and she looked like she'd been tangoed! I wouldn't recommend it either - they seem to be very heavy handed0 -
I wouldn't go if you aren't comfortable, but I'm not being funny, all hairdressers and beauticians give the chit chat. If you get someone you click with then its good but understand if you don't then it's not!
Regarding the time though.. I got married at 2, so needed t be ready by 1.. My hair and make up lady came round at half 8 did one bridesmaid then did my hair and make up. The trial had taken about an hour, on the day it took about two, and it gives time for touch ups, and also time for the other girls too.
I thought it was really early when she said but it worked out perfectly.
You could go to the different wedding fayres or make up counters like previous posters have suggestedgood luck!
Married my wonderful husband on 8/9/12 :j0 -
I don't wear a lot of makeup either and because I'm not getting married locally (and I'm a control freak) I'm going to do it myself. I went to a few makeup counters over a few weeks and i've ended up with a bare minerals starter kit. It made my skin look really smooth and was quite easy to apply. Whatever you go for, I would suggest not getting persuaded into buying anything there and then, wait and see how it lasts and if you're really sure about it before parting with cash!0

I would recommend searching "bridal makeup" on YouTube - lots of nice looks there. I agree Lisa Eldridge is great but many others are too. Est!e Lauder double wear is a good wedding makeup it is very long lasting but can also be thick so if you don't like that they do a light version. Also make sure the foundation doesn't have an SPF in it because SPF can sometimes make people look a bit weird in photos. Your wedding day is a day you will have people taking many photos of you! The last thing you want is that your foundation is wrong!
Benefit's foundation is rubbish, I personally wear skin base by Illamasqua (https://www.illamasqua.com) I also like Mally makeup.0 -
I'm in the same boat, except that I'm 42 so feeling even more under pressure. Still, I wear little make-up and definitely favour the natural look. My experiences of previous make overs have been all negative. However much I made it clear I only liked natural looks, I ended up feeling over made up and just not looking myself. Saying that, my skin is not the nicest, can shine quite a bit, and I could do with good advice on this.
I think I will go to a counter and do a free trial, then buy the products if I like it and try to replicate. After all, if I am going to pay the price, might as well keep the products!0 -
I had a bridal "makeover" yesterday at Clarins. Honestly I thought it was brilliant. You pay £20 but you get that back if you buy any products. The lady wanted to know all the details, colour scheme, dress colour/style, hairstyle, etc, and reccommended the right colours for me. I never would have chosen those colours my self (I'm a bit of a makeup idiot) but they worked really well. And she gave me a card showing how to apply all the different bits and pieces.
Also it was a really hot day and I had a load of shopping to do so was out for a long time in the heat and it stayed on all the time - even the lippy! Which I thought was great. It did cost a fair bit to buy the makeup but she put tons of free skincare samples and stuff in there too.0 -
Hey.
I'm going to do my make up myself too as always feel a bit uncomfortable with others doing it for me..I was going to go to one of the counters in debenhams and get them to do the look I'm going for then buy the make up, I'll probably have a trial or 2 at home before the big day
Also will you have your BM with you as she could help? X0 -
Hi
I recently visited a Chanel counter to disucss my wedding make up as I am also considering doing it myself. They told me that it is £15 for a make up type sesssion but then you can redeem this £15 against products and can book as many sessions as you like. I know most counters do this. I have had one with Nars and MAC and both were great. The Nars one was free but I did feel almost pushed into buying after that.
I am not sure if any of these are close to you but hope this helps.0
