I'm considering installing an en suite shower in my bedroom but right under where the shower will go is the rcd unit and the main eclectric feed(same wall but downstairs) Where do I stand with the regs is it legal to do?

Just think about it. The possibility of a leak? Water and electricity don't mix. You really need a proffessional electrician to view the situation and advise you from there. The fact that you have shown concern it an admission that you yourself are aware of a conflict between supplies ( i.e water- electricity). You might be afraid of cowboys hence you r request for advise, but quite simply if what they say doesn't make sense to you get someone else.
Local building regs from your authority would give you the advise you need. They are really helpfull.0 -
no it isn't a prob at all, it's not in the same room let alone the same floorI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
The room will be fully tiled and its a fully enclosed shower cubicle.0

My ensuite is over my hall, directly above the mains smoke detector, being a rubbish new build the shower leaks, water pours out of the smoke detector. We've not fried yet!0

Fine from a plumbing poit of view... now ask a sparky. If he says thats ok then I am wrong.southcoastrgi wrote: »no it isn't a prob at all, it's not in the same room let alone the same floor0 -

As above with southcoastrgi
No one will be "fried" if properly installed! that's why you have all the safety features re earthing, RCD, Bla Bla ETC. Get a qualified sparky in and a good plumber, as obviously you do not have the experience in doing it your self.:(The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. you don't install a bathroom or a en-suite with the intention of it leaking, providing your electrics are upto date there really isn't a prob, you will have electrics under every upstairs bathroom, so stop worrying & just find yourself a good bathroom fitterI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

I don't think anyone will get fried because of RCD and RCB'o but I still would ask the local authority building control for their advice. But hey that's just me. If they would give you the OK.0
