7 inch Tablet under £50

I am wanting to buy a 7" tablet for my daughter who has saved up her pocket money. I appreciate I am not going to get anything spectacular for such a small amount of money but would just like something that switches on, charges and isn't too slow!

She would only be using it for games, eBay and you tube.

Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations? I have been looking at amazon, currys, etc but the cheaper ones all have very mixed reviews.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Scroll tablet which has been fine for games, iplayer, facebook etc - website - http://www.storageoptions.com/products/scroll/tablets/scroll-essential-ii
Available in a few places inc Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Storage-Options-55109-Essential-Capacitive/dp/B009HY68YC/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1364854458&sr=1-1

Edit - sorry, just seen this is above your budget, but probably worth the extra if you can. My partner bought a 'no-name' tablet on ebay for about £40 and sent it back - it was painfully slow to use!

Under £50 is a bit tricky, there is some real tosh around that price level. These tablets are 'hyper' price sensitive at this level and £5 can make a huge difference between reasonable to use and pretty unpleasant to use.

Personally I would let your daughter do a car wash and vacuum valet to earn an extra £5 and get the Ployer Momo9 III. A solid device with good battery life, a good size 8GB of memory which will probably save you the £5-£10 you would spend on a memory card for a slightly cheaper tablet with less memory built in anyway! I have had a play with this tablet and I found it fine.

The Ployer has a recent A13 processor which performs OK but also a Mali 400 graphics processor which helps a lot with video playback and games... some of the cheapest tablets don't have this and are really bad.

You can get it from a UK supplier for £55.99 delivered.

Its sold a lot on Amazon but MOST the sellers there are from HK or China so shipping is slower, its harder to resolve issues and you run the risk of getting hit with customs charges but they are selling them no cheaper than this UK seller.

Very much a case of you get what you pay for... the only cheap, and by cheap I mean under £90 tablet that won't look embarrassing next to an ipad or the like, is a blackberry playbook.

    http://www.debenhamsplus.com/DE_Blackberry_Tablet_10078455/version.asp

Most cheaper tablets have poor screens, or 2 hour battery lives, shoddy build quality, single core CPU or some allwinner rubbish so sloooooooow performance, lots of crashing (makes windows millennium look stable), incompatibilities or requiring installation of a custom ROM to get anything out of it. And if that last bit makes no sense to her, avoid cheap tablets! Could she save for a couple of more months? It really will be £50 wasted otherwise.
Still, if she's desperate, there is something like this

I would avoid Scroll ones as suggested above, they fell out with Google so didn't install official Google Android and were not able to use the Google Play Store, you have to use an imitation 3rd party app store instead. Fortunately I discovered this before buying one myself (I should have realised it was too cheap, it was on clearance due to this major fail)

The Blackberry Playbook is good value but due to their limited app store your daughter would have to pay for the games she could otherwise get for free on Google Play Store. So not a good choice for a child I would advise, it costs more and will cost more in the long run.

The newer A13 devices we have are not bad now for speed and power consumption, compared to our older tablets they last easily over 4 hours and can play any game currently available on the store smoothly, even real Racing 3 or Temple Run Oz.

I'm surprised Sillygoose didn't tell you about his purchase of this model

    http://mad4pads.co.uk/ainol-novo7-legend---8gb---7-5-point-touch-screen---android-4-226-p.asp

He bought not only one, not two, not three but four !!!! and if mine hadn't been to may satisfaction, on his purchase alone, I would have sent for one of them.

I would have Islandman, but was trying to keep as close to posters target price as possible.

Also the Novo7 is all sold out for now anyway so it wouldn't have helped.

your post is a complete load of rubbish, plenty of decent sub £90 tablets around that are worlds apart from what you're describing.
    For example
    http://sumvision.com/productinfo/CycloneVoyager/CycloneVoyager.asp

the 7" version is less than £80 and has some excellent reviews which is no surprise really because it is a very good tablet.....there are plenty of others out there too around this price mark.

I'm sorry, but I would respectfully suggest that your above statement could be misconstrued.

I know you say "as suggested above", but my wife and I have Scroll Excel tablets and a friend has an Excel 2 and they all have no problem whatsoever with Play Store. The Excel 2 is dual core in comparison to ours which I think are just single core. Ok, so they're not exactly the quickest things available but we've had no hassle with any of them and I don't know when my wife or I last used our Asus netbooks.

So anybody reading this thread and looking at Scrolls, do your own research!

In the context of the op's post their price range would only be in reach of the Scroll Basic that cannot use the Play store and has to use the 3rd party SlideME store.

According to the manufacturers site, Storage Options they don't mention Play store under devices like other manufacturers but promote partner sites instead.

I am glad if Play Store works on your devices but it seems to be bending the rules a bit.. in Storage Options own words...

    Storage Options Partner App Stores
Storage Options is dedicated to ensuring that you are able to enjoy the full Scroll experience and we are pleased to endorse three app store partners. SlideME offers a broad range of apps in multiple mediums, while media marketplace 7digital is the ultimate companion for music lovers. WildTangent Games completes the package and offers a dazzling array of games in an easy to access and manage format.

Due to licensing regulations relating to the Google Play app store and Storage Options Scroll devices we are unable to offer official support or advice for this application.
