Blue badge parking

I've just set up a petition on numbwers 10's site, requesting that the rules governing allocation of blue badges be revised. For a fuller explanation and your vote (I hope) please follow the link or cut & paste into your browser.

Thanx for your support, but i find it rather patronising that some people say you can't park anywhere. I KNOW THIS.

The whole point of the petition is to change the issuing requirments, some people do not know of the methods suggested and/or do not have access to the net (in order to see these suggestions). Please look at the bigger picture and sign.

its not the dr who does this anymore you get an assesment from an ocupational therapist who decides whether you qualify

That depends on the council you are in, some will accept a Drs letter. Some will still refuse to give one out.

Even with a blue badge, you may get ticketed if you park on double yellows and you will get ticketed for parking in a loading bay. Even in an emergency.

just signed your petition i do think each case should be decided on its own merits.
my husband has a blue badge due to spinal problems he automatically qualifies as he recieves higher level of dla for mobility,but he does not always need a disabled space( he has better days sometimes and can manage with just a stick) he never parks in a space when he does not need it.
we have a feighbour who is in a similar position who sees his badge as an excuse to park wherever he needs to.

People who don't get any DLA are able to get a blue badge if they have certain conditions, I think it is dealt with by social services (I may be wrong) and although I know what you mean when you have to park somewhere on short notice because of your son's condition I'm not sure about the petition.

Another point is that even with a Blue Badge, it doesn't mean you can just park anywhere.

If you contact your local Social Services, they will tell you what supporting evidence they need for those not getting the appropriate DLA.

Then perhaps you could get a badge for your son.

But, a BB does not allow you to just park anywhere - some parking restriction apply, regardless.

How easy is it to get a Blue Badge?

just back from a meeting - we were told about the updated criteria of the scottish 'disabled persons (badges for motor vehicles)(scotland) ammendement regulations 2007 that is in force in scotland since 1st april this year:
1. anyone who gets a motability scheme car automatically qualifies for a badge
2. kids under 2 now qualify if they need bulky medical equipment.(previously no children under 2 had one)
3. kids that have a condition that requires they always be kept near a behicle so they can be treated in the car or taken quickly to a place they can be treated. (sounds like chrons might fall under this one)
4. inclusion of people with temporary mobility impairment as long as it will last at least 12 months (up til now the impairment had to be permanent)

badges will now vary in legnth of issue from between 12 months to 3 years.
they will have a hologram and a side that clearly states which side is 'up'.
councils will be allowed to charge a much higher fee for one (up to £20 at the discretion of the council)

sounds to me like they have been listening- in scotland at least.

It really depends on where you live :rolleyes: my mum wasnt allowed to have a blue badge, without having DLA. This is under nottingham city council however thee are SOME councils that let you have a blue badge with a letter from your dr, with no dla..... very confusing.

I got a blue badge for my husband with no problems. He wasn't with me, he couldn't walk that far. All I had to prove his case was his prescription sheets. No letter from doctor, OT etc. It is valid until 2010 and the lass was very apologetic when she said she had to ask me for £2. He is over 65 so no DLA.
