Landlord Building Insurance

My son drove into the garage door of my rental property :eek:.
He has a new car and got first and reverse mixed up!! :mad:
The result is that the garage door has a large dent in it.
The rental is managed by a Lettings Agency and I find them not the easiest people to deal with.
Is this covered by the Landlord's buildings insurance?

Perhaps, perhaps not but is there any reason why son does not feel it is his responsibility??
How can a grown man with a brain & a full driving licence not bother to find out the difference between 1st & reverse...
(Rhetorical question but feel free to discuss it...)

It is covered by the buildings insurance, but they may then look to recover their costs from your son (or his motor insurers)
Alternatively, a claim could be made direct from the motor insurer as Thrugelmir suggests, but they are only obliged to provide indemnity, so will make deductions based on the pre-existing condition of the garage door.0 -

Might be better to cough up and pay for the damage yourself - or get you son to pay.
If he is young and inexperienced, any claim on his car insurance will put up his policy considerably, and all claims have to be declared on future renewals for 5 years or more! Get someone in to quote for the work, come clean to the agents and offer to pay for it to be put right.
As above, LL's insurance may pay, but the old adage "Where there is blame, there is a claim" is very true, and they will come after whoever caused the damage to pay for it - with their admin fees on top! They will also probably insist on using a top notch professional for the repair, when you may be able to convince the agent/landlord, to use someone cheaper of your choice!0
