Access to NASA Launch

Hello,
I'm going to Florida during July and i've looked on the NASA website and there's a launch due for the dates around when i am there.
I've seen a launch before, it was amazing, but my 7 year old cousin is yet to and woud really like to see one.
When we went to Florida 8 years previous, we contacted NASA and they sent out a pack with passes to the launch for free, however, after again writing to them, they have told us that there is now a fee of £50, which seems very odd, considering NASA appear to nowadays be losing its appeal, you would've thought they would be giving them away.
Is there anyway i could gain free access, has anyone been through this before?
Thanks

we watched the launch from the road side (the one with Glen 2000?) didnt cost a penny and we had access to a cheap 7/11 and a bar for toilets it was called Titusville

Booking a motel would be cheaper than £50
I would hold on anyway jst yet there is still a 20 day window
Each time we have gone there as been one planned and only managed to see 1 through either cancelllations due to bad weather or faultsIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
we did book tickets....dont remember it being as expensive as that ..though it was a few years ago. there are loads of places out with the nasa site to see the launch. Infact we eventually saw the launch from epcot because the countdown was stopped on the day because of technical difficulties...and we didnt want to waste another day especially if it didnt launch again...the tickets did include the museum and imax cinema, tour of the buildings etc...x x x0

There's a chance that prices have increased due to the security measures that have to be in place for everything these days.0

saw a launch completely by fluke when we were on a caoch tour around Kennedy Space Centre a few years back. Not a space shuttle launch but it still was awesome and shook the coach even though we were about 4 miles away0

We had the most incredible view of a launch about four years ago when flying between Jacksonville and Miami just at the right time .....

I also watched a space shuttle launch from Titusville, and the view was amazing. I actually think that spectators are closer from this spot than those people on NASA grounds.
I was there for a night flight, and so I had a whole day to kill, which is rather difficult because there's not much in the town. So, I spent the day in the cinema, watching three films in a row. The most important thing is to keep checking for updates on the flight. This is probably easiest done on the internet, although I believe NASA also has a special launch telephone number (probably available from the website).0
