Car is driving rough. Please help.
So, I've had this car for 4 months now, and I know something is not right.
Recently, when driving, the car seems to drag, and even when you put your feet down on the acelerator, the car doesn't seem to want to move.
The car is a renault clio campus 1.1
Does anyone know the possible cause of this issue? Yellow muck on the oil cap and inside? Due to my recent engine oil change? cambelt needs replacing? clutch slipping?
many thanks

when you say rough, do you mean running on three cylinders? if so check spark plugs and leads, then a compression test.0

When my 206 was rough it was because one of the injectors were faulty.0

Its a neglected heap. Try servicing it.
Is that the 1st oil change in the last 10 years?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Can you feel it misfiring or does it just feel "slow"
Clutch slipping is easy to diagnose, floor it in 4th/5th, the car should slowly pick up speed. If the revs rise quickly without a change in speed then its slipping.0 -

Muck on the filler cap and dip stick? is it like a creamy sludge? are you losing any water or is the car over heating at all? I hate to say it but if you have sludge on the dipstick and filler cap chances are it could be head gasket. have you had a look in your coolant overflow tank to see if there is any sludge in there?0 -

Agreed with the poster; sludge, as described, equals HG fail. Get a gas test to confirm. Looks bad.0 -
They didn't even make a mk 2 1.1 Clio did they? But anyway it's a Clio for goodness sake. It's probably an electrical fault. Why don't you get rid of it now before it becomes even more of a money pit. Or join Renault Forums - they'll probably tell you to change the coil pack/leads (it's all one part on the Clio).
And your headgasket hasn't gone - if it had then you'd know about it. It's just the default answer people give when they see pics like you post up.0 -

I don`t know about the Renault but on other cars they revert to a "limp home" mode ( a basic setting) when something electronic has failed or faulty .
You can buy a tester for around £20 on Ebay.0 -

That suggests oil and water mixing. Take it for a gas test.
Why other's on here can't see that, is unknown.
How is it possible to be electrical, if includes fluids?
Gas test - rad cap off, suck up the liquid, see if there is co2 present. Simples.0 -
The sludge in the oil could be anything from a blown head gasket to a simple matter of too many short runs. The sluggishness could be anything from a blocked air filter to an ECU fault.
Testing for combustion gases in the coolant would confirm/eliminate the head gasket. The rest would need a methodical examination of the car's systems. It would be a mistake to assume that all the issues are related. Getting the codes read would be a good place to start. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
