Under "system:" it should say "Windows XP ......" etc, what does it say under yours? There should be a "service pack x" there. If not then you probably don't even have SP1 in which case update NOW on windows update.

Definitely worth updating then. Also might be worth going through the spyware removal guide (posts 1 to 4) http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=133269
just in case any nasties got through before you made the critical updates to windows."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Right, I have managed to get support pack 2 and install IE7...but the thanks buttons are still not working? (do work when I use firefox).
Also...have just tried to install AVG but it comes up with the following message '64 bit edition of Windows is not supported'
Any thoughts please?Getting Married 19/02/110 -

Or, use avast! free antivirus instead.
If your problems persisit, & you have the genuine Windows disk + Product Key (this may come in handy btw), considering reinstalling the OS & starting afresh - XP reactivation most probably required. Prior to this, make a careful note of the Product key & back-up all data, emails, pics, music, etc, to removable media/storage as required. G0 -
I think Goofgat's suggestion of reinstalling windows is probably best. Considering your copy of windows on the pc hasn't been updated in years (service pack 1 must be at least 5 years old by now) I'd be surprised if there wasn't already lots of malware on the pc. And I'm assuming (if the previous owner didn't bother with the critical updates) there wasn't any security software installed including a firewall."She is quite the oddball.
