Hi - I would be glad of some help with blocking unwanted ads which have only just started to appear and only on this site.
I have activated the pop-up blocker to 'high' but this does not stop these annoying non-mse quick loan offers from appearing every minute or so.
I have Norton installed.
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Use Adblockplus with Firefox or Chrome...0 -
+1 for adblock plus.
Using Firefox or Chrome instead of Internet Explorer will cure a lot of browser woes.
If Internet Explorer wasn't installed by default as part of windows, it would have died the death it so richly deserves long ago.

uninstall or disable any unwelcome browser add-ons you may have installed. http://blog.avast.com/2013/03/20/avast-browser-cleanup-at-work/
scan with malwarebytes and tdsskiller, and tidy up with ccleaner
if it continues, post a hijackthis log.!!

Many thanks, Waddler8. I will check this out.
You are right, DCFC79, not everyone is as knowledgeable as many on this forum obviously are, which is why I asked for help... Hoping against hope that I would be able to understand and carry out the advice
Thanks to all for the quick replies.

I agree, don't know why people still give it bad press. Miles better than the likes of McAfee and free stuff like AVG in my opinion.
Anyway, back on top, AdBlock is the extension I use for Chrome (and probably on Firefox too). Works great for me.0
