Insurance for notebook PC purchased outside of UK - renting

Hi
I am currently renting (live with 6 others!) and have been told I am unlikely to be able to get household contents insurance.
I have a notebook with a replacement value of about 1300GBP and was purchased from Newegg (in the United States).
What are my best options for insuring it? Most providers have stated the notebook MUST have been purchased in the UK.

Have you tried Endsleigh? they do a lot of insurance specifically for students, so they may be able to provide you with contents cover.0

Thanks, I had a look just then. It looks like the maximum value they cover is 1000 gbp0

If you do a quote via their Student Possessions page, you can select cover up to £2,000 per item.
I would recommend ringing before you purchase any cover though, just to check that they will cover the laptop if it was purchased abroad - their policy documents just say that they will need proof of purchase, which I presume you can provide?
edit: that depends on you being a student (my fault, didn't read the OP properly) - they do have a £1,000 limit on their regular gadget insurance, but on the contents insurance from them (suitable for shared properties), you definitely can specify a laptop at £1,3000
