How powerful a projector

Our church needs to buy a new projector. Our screen is about 6 feet across and the church is illuminated sufficient to read at all times.
We are finding with our old projector that it is OK for showing the words of songs but cannot cope with photos.
The projector is about 10 feet from the screen although we have thought of moving it further back - perhaps 30 feet.
What size / output projector should we be be looking at for our 6 foot screen - either 10 feet away or 30 feet away (with a higher focal length lens)?
Many thanks.

Might need worth asking a cinema fitting company for advice on that front, there are so many variables!0

lumens and bulb life are two major things.
You want it bright enough to see in a lit room, so with only a smidgen of knowledge would suggest around 2200 upward. Would suggest if you google your current model, then purchase the next one equivalent in brightness up?
The cost approx £350+ for a high lumin bulb. LED projectors are on the market, but probably far to dim.
As time goes on, the bulbs get dimmer.
Tried cleaning the lamp and lense?0 -
Lots of useful advice at http://www.projectorpoint.co.uk/projector-advice-guide.htm
(note I have no connection with them, just a useful site I was pointed to when we were looking for a projector for our church).
Most of the projectors in the 3000 lumen range will be adequate on brightness. If you are playing videos though you are probably best going for an XGA one rather than SVGA.0 -
Thank you that's very useful. Much appreciated,0
