in Credit cards
Hello
When I was young i was a naughty boy and didn't pay my bills (contracts, catalogs, etc) now I've got older I'm regretting it big time.
I can't get anything on credit now, so I thought I would get a credit card and start using it to build up a good reputation but I got declined
So where do I go from here? Do I get a list of my debts from over 8 years ago and pay them back (which I know is the right thing to do) or is there another way I can build it up?
Thanks for any advice

I did that a few years back. Didn't look good. Defaults everywhere
What do you suggest?0 -

What do you suggest? You get your credit reports (suggest Experian & Equifax), and take a look at what the lenders see when they search you.0 -

Since you imply the debts are 8+ years old, the defaults you had on file are likely to not be on there (They are removed 6 years from the date of default whether you still owe money or not). You may find you have NO negative information.
You need your reports off Experian and Equifax (FREE month trial available on both)or pay £2 for your statutory reports.

Anyway, make sure you get a report off Experian and Equifax and come back and ask for help when you know what they contain.I have numerous qualifications in Business and Finance, Accountancy, Health and Safety and am now studying Law.

They still chase me for the debts, I keep getting letter from different company's even though it has been that long.
Thought it was 5 years guess not.
Are they just chancing it?0 -

I think it is about time you took your debts seriously and made a plan for paying them back now, so that you can get a better credit rating.
Those debts are still biting you on the b**0 -

For any debts that are over six years old, reply to them saying that you don't accept that the debts are yours but they are statute barred in any event, and as such no enforcement action can be taken. Put "Without Prejudice" at the top of the letter.
Get your credit reports NOW and see what's on them. Sometimes credit reference agencies don't automatically remove defaults after six years and need a gentle reminder. What will your verse be?
