Nordic Ware pans

pots-and-pans.co.uk have some bargains on Nordic Ware cake tins (among other things). I've been looking for a cake tin that's different and a bit special for an event and found a Nordic Ware one at John Lewis for £37 but couldn't really justify paying that...the same one is £17.84 from pots and pans (at that price I got the one I had seen plus another one and still came in under the JL price for one. Free shipping on orders over £30.

£17.84 might seem a lot for a cake tin, but Nordic Ware stuff is fantastic quality and they're the sort of thing you keep and pass down through generations so well worth it IMHO.

Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Some great designs, especially if you have kids and make cakes regularly - love the 'Backyard Bugs' !0

The castle and train cake moulds would be fantastic for kids birthday cakes!

That's another thing added to my list to treat myself to once I get another job! At this rate my first month's salary will go to my credit card :rotfl:0

Very good prices, thank you.
N.B. Nordic Ware advise to NOT use cake release containing lecithin - no matter how highly recommended! - because after a few uses it starts to build up and affect the non-stick properties of the coating. (Baker's Joy is OK if you can get hold of it.)
Using the tins clean gives the crispest outlines but you do run a slightly higher risk of your cakes sticking. Butter and flour gives a very reliable release but makes the detail slightly less fine.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I don't know what a Cactus Kabob is, but I'm sure I need one!!:wall:0

I do not believe the cakes would come out in that shape. I've never had luck with these things (or the right skills!), easier to bake boring shape and then cut it up...:wall:0

I paid more for this cake lifter from Lakeland:

It's just brilliant. I use it all the time when baking to move cakes from tin to rack, rack to storage box, etc. No more balancing cakes on a fish slice!0 -
Agutka, these tins really are wonderful and rarely ever stick. I personally find that the outside of the cakes I have made is a little too chewy - possibly because I have used too much 1 calorie spray or butter in order to make sure nothing does stick. I need to modify my approach but am intruigued by the Baker's Joy suggestion. The detail is very good on what I have produced so far, so if I can just balance out how much oil I am using to get the perfect 'non-chewy' outside of the cake, I'd be very happy.
I first saw this Christmas Tree ring tin on one of Nigella's programs, and it became my quest to buy it a few years ago. It was impossible to find at below £40, so this £16.06 is exceptionally good:

My mum and I actually bought it from the US in the end, and a friend forwarded - still worked out much cheaper than buying it UK side. We make this with a normal pound cake batter which has come out perfectly detailed every time so far, and simply sprinkle icing sugar to look like snow. Stunning!
I am highly tempted by the little molds, such as the teacakes and candies. Bite sized cakes, truffles, jellies...I am sure some very beautiful little things could be made with those!0
