When did your child start walking to school alone?

In their last term in year 6, in readiness for secondary school. We live a 5 minute walk from the primary school they went to and for my eldest, I let her leave 5 minutes before I had to leave to take the younger ones to the same school, she had the independence to walk by herself, but I would know she had got there by the time I got there.
Same for the second one, it was just my youngest it was a bit different for; I just had to trust she had got there as I had left for work once she left to walk to school. There was no major road to cross, just a fairly minor one with a ramp and 20mph limit & they were all taught to cross a road safely, I also had friends who would have contacted me if they suspected all wasn't well.0 -
Both of mine started walking just after their 7th birthdays. The school is less than ten minutes away, only two minor roads to cross and as it's the main walk to school route from this end of our town I felt quite confident about it. My two are reasonably sensible kids and I trusted them not to mess about or take detours.Val.0

mine where 8 and 9 i think when they had to due to me hurting my ankle. They took a phoen with them, and texted me to say they were there and called when leaving so I knew when they were leaving0
