Cancelling car insurance half way through

Does anyone know the position if you have to or choose to cancel your car insurance after 6 to 7 months? Presumably,if you have paid up front, you get a small refund after admin charge, but what happens if you are paying monthly? Does the insurance just finish or will they come chasing you for more money?
Also, how long do your no claims last if you do not drive for some time?

There will probably be an admin charge, and possibly a cancellation charge too. The insurance will end there.

I believe the NCD is kept for 2 years.

Ringing your insurance company for clarification is the only way you will find out for definite.

You don't actually pay for insurance monthly. It's still an annual contract so you take out a loan which enables you to pay for a year's insurance up front, then you repay the loan over the course of a year. So if you cancel half way through, the refund (after cancellation/admin fee) is likely to be less than the amount you still owe, so you probably will end up having to pay something - either by getting your credit card out when you cancel, or by keeping your direct debit going for another month or two. I'm afraid you can't just cancel the direct debit on the day you cancel the insurance and call it quits. The exact amount you owe will depend on the insurer's terms and conditions.

Strange place to put this thread, this forum is about parking
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

I recently cancelled my Motorbike insurance with the AA. I was paying monthly, around £35/mth. I have 2 months until renewal and they want £76.00! they claim this is the final few installments discounted and then their admin fee. It is scandelous! I will just have to keep my direct debit going for a few months. I will never insure through the AA again, the premium is far too dear, and they are a nightmare to deal with, when making changes to the policy etc, and now this.

They are all the same to be honest. You;ll find this out when you take your next insurance out.

And its no good saying its scandalous, it will all be in the terms and conditions which you agreed to and signed to say to when you took the policy out.

For heavens sake! This is the Parking Forum!

You need to post this in the Motoring or Insurance fora for the best advice.

Dear AA rep, as you have found your way to the Parking Forum, pleeeeeeeease can you rattle some cages to update your misleading information about the Protection of Freedoms Act?

I saw some guff from the AA and RAC around October time, and it was written in such a biased way as if the BPA themselves wrote it...?! Both organisations (AA and RAC) actually seemed to be strangely deluded into saying that PPCs now had some super-powers to pursue their unenforceable fake PCNs. Whaaaaat?

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4360185

Just because they no longer need to know who was driving doesn't suddenly make a private parking FAKE 'ticket' any more enforceable than a Burger King flyer on a windscreen. In fact now there is a POPLA appeals service in England/Wales, these fake PCNs can be cancelled and given the contempt they deserve at the PPCs' expense.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
