Afternoon all am feeling a bit emotional as I have decided to watch the Grand National today something I have not done for 15years.My late DH used to always have a bet on a Saturday and off course this was always his favourite race of the year.He would send Lala and her brother out to play so he could watch it in peace and he literally used to ride the horse home himself with all the cheering and shouting he did.He always did yankee's and doubles and trebles and I could never make head nor tail of what he did.But he did have a good win with Red Rum one year and it paid for us all to go to America to see his sister.A couple of days after he died there was a knock on the door and a friend handed me £28 -50 and said he had had a bet on the Saturday and he had bought me round his winning complete with the betting slip :A

My late mum loved the horses, very rare she bet more than £1 or so in one go. She liked yankees and other multiples, she could work winnings out to the penny, lol. I can remember her sending my brother and his friend to collect her winnings (both in early 20s then) and when they went to the shop the assistant said 'It won't take both of you to carry it' and gave them her 3 and a half p winnings - she thought that was hilarious - they didn't.

I can also remember us watching the national the year they had to stop and then re run it, mum wasn't impressed hers won the first time.:rotfl:

I have done her lucky number but it won't be the same as having her shouting at the tv and then saying that was the other horse I was looking at no matter which one wins.;):D

Hope you enjoy the race and your memories xxx

Yep - I'll be thinking about my dear Dad whilst watching it. We always watched it together (or heard it in his case as he was blind). One year he was so fed up as he did a Tricast and picked the first three ..... but in the wrong order!! to my Dad - my best friend - miss him sooooo much.

It is the only race we do each year in our house. Follows on from when I grew up and it was the only race we were allowed to watch then and as we got older allowed to place a bet on. Same in our house now. :)
Smile :) and hopefully the world will smile back
