Hi, I have a spoken word mp3 file which I need to play and type what is being said, what I need is some way to slow the speech down as I am not the fastest typist, is there any free software that will do this. I think I have windows media player and itunes installed at present but don't mind adding something that will do this. thanks

I've got a feeling that iTunes will let you alter pitch (have a look in file info), however this will also make the pitch of the audio lower obviously.
The best way to do it would be to use time expansion. If you're running Windows or Mac OS9 then you can use Pro Tools Free, which is free however I'm not sure if you can still download it from the Digidesign site. I'm guessing that Audacity will do time expansion too but I haven't used it much so I'm not sure.
The other thing you could do is add gaps between the words in a wave editor such as Audacity, but of course this would be very time consuming.0 -
In Windows media player, you can change the play speed settings.
Go to the "now playing" menu. click on it and under "enchancements" there is the speed setting option which you can select to your desired playback speed.0 -
...or you could just keep pausing it to give you time to type each bit...0

Yes, There is Windows Media Player 11 out, which is what I checked it on.
Its exactly what you need for what you want to do.

You need a time stretching facility. One that slows it down without changing pitch. Here's a free one.
