If you click on view product information, it tells you the average analysis at source mg/L
Sulfate 5.3
Nitrate 3.1
^^I was getting Evian but switched to Highland Spring to try it, admittedly on price, but calcium is lower.
Tap water in London not only smells but having same problem as you know, E, is very hard. Kitchen filter tap made no difference to calcium though did improve smell/taste. I presume jug filters don't reduce calcium? Taps and shower are constantly clogged, pet water bottles have sediment around the spout - so on vet advice pets are now on bottled water mainly due to calcium caused issues.
Edwardia, out of interest have you ever tried those analysis sticks on it?
I get bottled water from Milk & More, mainly as it's cheaper to get it delivered than use my car.. though they aren't the cheapest prices they do have both Evian and Highland Spring and sometimes these are on offer. Worth considering if you only want a small amount, suits me as I don't put big orders in anywhere else, and I can just literally get water only delivered, though presume as you order from Ocado anyway it's easier/cheaper to get it from there.0 -
Jug filters never made any difference to calcium when my mother tried them, Kirri. We've got an electronic filter and although OH checked it's OK it doesn't do much.
No I haven't tried analysis sticks on the water cos I presume that just shows the pH ??
I cn relate to the water bottles getting clogged up - everything, shower head, loo, taps, kettle, old milk bottle used for watering plants, washing machine - gets clogged. I use Arm & Hammer washing soda in washing machine and Viakill in the loo.
Milk&More.. did think of this and what a palaver. According to Milk & More their Experian software said that my identity didn't match up with the details they had from council tax records.
Contacted local council checked correct, contacted Experian, checked correct, Milk & More still said incorrect. The irony was I wanted to use debit card not have credit anyway and Experian said my credit file was Excellent so I gave up at that point !
Ocado SmartPass gets 10% off but 2 for £4 offer a bit cheaper than Ocado offer so when I can get elsewhere I will.0 -
I switched to bottled water a few months ago, Highland Spring was on offer so I ordered lots, I was also daft enough to try carrying 4 1.5 litre bottles home from the supermarket too. Two in my backpack and two in each bag.
I checked after Edwardia's post and realised Highland Spring is lower in calcium than Evian.
I live in London but I haven't compared the water to anywhere else so I am not sure how it should be. I have not noticed it smells.
I have since been ordering Waitrose essential bottled water, still and sparking (to try to reduce Coca Cola cravings). I read a review saying it has fluoride added even though it does not state this anywhere on the label. So I am confused.
Kirri what puts you off drinking the cheaper bottled water options?
Edwardia there are other supermarkets around nearby but all still require bus and tube, or walking and tube or 2 buses and its exhausting standing on a packed bus with two heavy shopping bags trying to balance yourself and trying to squeeze past people, and stairs on the tube. And a huge waste of time of and energy. So I really need to stick to online shopping which I have only started recently, 3 Ocado orders so far.0 -
We don't have a car - OH commutes and we live 5 mins walk from station. Car would just sit there 5 days out of 7 as I don't drive. Often supermarkets do put a limit on how much water you can order online - I guess it's a Health & Safety thing for the drivers maybe.
I get to go out with my mother a couple of times a month here and can shove water in her car and when I see offers in her local supers then she will bring it up when she comes to see me. I can get more water than I can from Ocado then.
OH gave up drinking coffee and is drinking more water now so it's going down faster. Despite OH's protests that I'm cluttering the kitchen I believe in buying in bulk on offers when I can to save money.
Water stash is looking a bit low to me
As far as taste goes, Evian is what I'm used to, I've been drinking it for the major part of my life. In France there's always water on the table with meals in my family and the still is always Evian. The French seems to drink way more water, you always see more of it in French supermarkets.
There's no reason why I couldn't drink cheaper water, I just prefer Evian. I have seen Highland Spring in Poundland sometimes BTW sophlowe450 -
I drink Highland Spring now and then, both still and sparkling, mostly sparkling, not a fan of still water, shame really as Scottish water is very drinkable and you get a great lather when you wash your hair.
I bought 2l of clearview from Tesco the other day for 25p, I used to buy the everyday value stuff, but its apparently tap water with a bit of fizz added, not that that would really bother me.
I like a bottle of sparkling water now and then and 25p for 2 litres is fair enough. You can get Highland Spring in Iceland and I believe Costco. My ex boss used to buy it for her gym and bought it in bulk.0 -

The cheaper bottled stuff isn't spring water? I certainly wouldn't want fluoride added!
I can't say I've looked at the analysis of it though.
Edwardia, just wondered how hard it came out, only tested mine when I was trialling some products for a survey once - it came out on their basic test as 'very hard'
Shame re M&M issues as for the odd item it's very handy.0 -
Ah I didn't know that, I knew the cheapest ones were table water.
The descriptions on Ocado say:
Waitrose own brand - Still Natural Mineral Water Stretton Hills. The description doesn't say flouride but one review said it, how do I figure out which one is accurate?
Highland Spring - Still Spring Water.
Evian - Evian Natural Mineral Water is characterised by its lightness and balanced composition.
I read the labels in Tesco for ages yesterday, decided against the 25p one and went for a bottle of Tesco English carbonated natural mineral water Ashbeck, bottled at source. It says it comes from the rolling hills of Eden valley. (just to not drink Coke, the calcium is very low and sulphates and nitrates high)0 -
^ Agree, it's very confusing/misleading. They make it sound like a spring water.. There was a bit of fuss a year or so back about places like Asda/Tesco selling the 14p stuff when it was just bottled tap water or whatever and the supermarkets said that people knew what they were buying... Safer to stick with spring water which *should* be the real thing.. Just read the reviews out of interest on that Waitrose Essential, might be worth contacting Waitrose directly about the fluoride issue, I notice there's no description on their own website either.0

This should explain the differences between waters in UK/EU. USA is different.
Basically mineral water is as comes out of the ground but has to meet criteria.
Spring water same but can be cleaned up bacteria-wise
Fluoride can be in water if naturally present. Evian doesn't have any neither does my local tap water. In some parts of US there's lots naturally and it makes teeth go brown. Some places do add small amounts.
Kirri M&M only does Country Life homogenised organic milk tho.0 -

So the Waitrose essential one shouldn't contain fluoride then???0
