Cat, dog and new baby

Aww they'll all be fine i didn't even worry about my dog and the new baby-she took a sniff of my daughter in the car seat and was protective straight away. Dogs are clever little things and yours probably knows full well what is going on already. Cats however i would get used to them not going in the babies room now.0

Hello,
Just wanted to update this thread now little one is nearly 9 months old and thank everyone for their help.
It's worked out very well. The cat avoids the baby but comes to us both for fuss and just ignores her. I leave her nursery door open in the day, he has never gone in her cot but he does like to sleep on the Poang (IKEA) chair that I had to do night feeds (that ended up not being needed, loves her sleep!) so he has commandeered it!
The dog was fine, sniffed her a few times. The only times she "suffered" was the first 5 days we took baby home. She only got one walk a day but then when my legs no longer felt like jelly she was back up to two.
Me going back to work full time has worked out ok. Hubby and I take it in turn to get up to do the morning walk (like always) then we always used to do her night walk together. We had to do it separately for a while when the nights were dark and wet. We now occasionally still get to do it together now the nights are lighter and the weather is better as we take the baby out in pushchair just before she goes bed.
She loves the dog and enjoys stroking her. Squeals with delight at her. Luckily the dog is so placid and doesn't mind.
From the day she came home from the hospital I made sure I had half an hour of undivided attention for the dog so she didn't feel left out.
It seems to work out very well and I'm pleased the dog and cat have accepted her. I was worried the cat would move out!I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
