One agency here charges £14 an hour and pays their cleaners £8.50.
Not far off needing a cleaner so researched last year, I can get a one for £8 an hr.
BUT have been warned against employing family or neighbours, lots of ill will when they have to be let go.
  • So the cleaner is booked to come round in the next few days to do a first clean. What should I expect or ask for in terms is paperwork? Should I see the CRBs, insurance etc? And is it sensible or expected to have a contract? I will check about payment when I'm on holiday (but I'd still like it to be cleaned then anyway!) and when she is on holiday. Am I right in thinking that I don't need to worry about holiday pay and so on as she's self employed?

I will be home for the first clean but not after that as I will be at work. I am a little worried about someone having a key and being in my house when I'm not there! Any words of wisdom for this?

I honestly think you have it covered, by your questions and the answers, should you ask for the record check?, sorry don't know which way you have gone in choice, but a simple have you been done for thieving? should set things straight.

Make sure you have their own home address and correct name, critical I think but only sprang to mind as I posted, drive by, is the outside respectable?, chance is the inside is the same.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Have had various cleaners over the years and have never once had a contract! Never had anything at all in writing, come to think of it. It'll be fine. :)

Cleaner at my old place - she was recommended to me and I only ever knew her name and phone number. Current one is a single guy working self-employed, but he has a company name, business cards etc so I have an address. Wouldn't ever have crossed my mind to check his house out.

    .

It may well "be fine", but then again it may not, I'm sure the OP has enough info to make an informed decision.

I'm simply going by the fact that the OP is concerned otherwise why post?, I don't think "It'll be fine" will cut it without offence.
