Hello I know Google took of the option to search in UK only some time ago and there were lots of protests - did these get anywhere? It seems not.As it is I get tons of American results I'm not interested in. Also I get tons of Google sponsored ads as my first 'results' which are often nothing to do with my search.

Has anyone found a way around this awful 'development'?

Anyone know of a good ad free search engine?

Thanks

Thanks for reply. I am searching .co.uk already. But many of my results are not from the UK. Previously, if you defined UK results only - that is what you got. Which is what you'd expect. However now it is awful. Think I'd prefer to ditch Google if possible.

p.s. for example I searched earlier on .... best time to divide hemerocallis.

perhaps there aren't any relevant results from co.uk for the particular search ?

I've just typed 'football' into google and it's come up with UK sites not American Football so it's working correctly so far as I can see

    A few points:

Sadly search engines are now big business and it's doubtful if you can access a good ad-free engine. Google, Bing and Yahoo are all ad-driven.

Search engine filtering is not as simple as it first appears and is a result of many factors, not the least of which are geolocation and of course search terms Have a look here for details.

You can manually filter your search results as follows
    1. Do a search on Google.co.uk as usual
    2. Under the search bar click on Search Tools
    3. Underneath where you clicked there will be some options, click The Web
    4. Choose Pages from the UK in the drop-down dialooge box that appears

You are lucky. Here in Spain google.es is terrible. Search for a local restaurant and you will probably get one in Los Angeles. Search for an online shop and you will find one in Argentina rather than Spain.

    Hopeless.
