London Marathon

Thanks Uber! I think I slowed down for the last 30 miles, but I made it! It proved to me how much is down to mental strength as at the halfway point I came very close to quitting, but forced myself to carry on and about two miles later all of a sudden I felt fantastic!0

That;s amazing Fufu. I can't even imagine how you keep going for so long. I have a half-marathon in 7 weeks which I feel very ill-prepared for (over -weight 40 something who can just about run 7 miles) but hopefully I'll be able to get around *somehow*)0

Barbara, you’ll be fine. I think you will be surprised what your body is capable off. Every training plan I read said not to run over 30 miles when training for my 52.4miler, so until the day the furthest I had run was 30 miles. Yet I was able to trot out another 22.4miles on top of it! Whatever you do on the day don’t give up, keep going no matter how slowly and the feeling you get at the end of it all will be worth it!
PS – your half isn’t down in Kent is it? I’m doing my local half-marathon in seven weeks!0 -
Richmond. Carefully selected because it claims to be flat!!!0

I've entered the ballot for London 2015. If I get in it will be my first marathon, although I've done a few halfs.
I will be running for charity but I haven't applied for a guaranteed charity place. The large fundraising targets are a bit off-putting for me, I'd rather get my own place and then I'm free to raise whatever I can, rather than be struggling to hit a target. My friend had a charity place one year and she found the fundraising quite stressful.
I haven't chosen a charity yet. I'm going to wait and see if I get a place and then I'm going to ask my best friend to pick a charity for me. I've been extremely lucky in my life and have no specific charity that means a lot to me although I have my favourites based on the things I enjoy in life. My friend however has had a lot in her life, her Dad died suddenly, her Mum has had cancer twice and there have been other things like that too. I want her to choose a charity that has helped her and/or her Mum, to make it more personal and meaningful. It will mean a lot to her to do that.
I'll find out in October if I've got a place.... then the training starts!! I'm already at half marathon distance so am half way there, but I've got a feeling the second half will be the hardest half..0 -

I think you will be fine. I signed up for my 52mile run in the February and the run was in July so I only had five months to train for it and I made that.
I think a lot of it is about the person you are, if you are quite strong willed like me and just push yourself to keep going you will do it. People don’t realise what the body is capable of. Good luck!0 -
I've just signed up for a charity place for next year's London Marathon. First time running so it's all a bit daunting, both with the amount of money I've committed to raising as well as the distance. I've never been a runner and have only recently felt comfortable running 5 - 7 km. Ike.
Still, I'm doing it for the charity that supports families dealing with the terminal illness that my mother was finally diagnosed with. I'm hoping a shed ton of donations should suffice to keep me going round the course!0
