Royal Mail international postage delayed

Hi

Not sure if this is in the right forum but wasn't sure where else to post!

I sold a phone on eBay about a month ago and thought I would include posting to Europe as it didn't seem to pricey to post to Europe and if the buyer was happy to pay the postage then it wasn't an issue for me!

Anyway I posted a phone about a month ago to the winner of the auction to Spain. I have tracked the parcel on Royal Mail and it says this:

YOUR ITEM HAS REACHED THE DESTINATION COUNTRY

Your item, posted on 25/02/13 with reference LY866950303GB has arrived in BARAJAS SPAIN and is being processed for delivery.

This is over a month now and so the buyer is naturally unhappy and has put a claim in on Paypal because it hasn't arrived.

So I looked up making a claim with royal mail and the form has this:

We are unable to accept claims
for delayed items of International mail.

How is that fair? I will end up out of pocket if the tracking number does not change from being processed.

If anyone can give me any advice that would be great

Thanks

I imagine its because Royal Mail don't deliver in the destination country. They just send the item there and the countries own delivery network fulfills it. Therefore they have no control over the speed of delivery.

I would suspect that no more tracking will appear on royal mails website as now they've handed it over to the destination country they lose sight of the item.

So therefore I think you're stuffed!

Royal mail treat mail to Europe as "lost" after 20 working days.

This is the form to submit a claim:

    http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/files/P58-Int-FINAL%20APRIL%2012_0_0.pdf

What you will get back from royal mail depends how much the phone sold for, and what level of insurance cover you paid for.

I think you will most likely need to refund the buyer, otherwise paypal will do it for you.

Generally I avoid selling ebay items outside the UK - there's just too much potential for things to go wrong and for fraud to occur.

Try looking on the Spanish post office website using the same tracking no.

    Mobile telephones
You cannot buy extra compensation for mobile telephones (including PDAs, iPhones and Blackberry mobiles). The maximum compensation payable for mobile telephones is £50. If you send a packet containing a mobile phone and other items, you can buy additional compensation, but this will only cover the other contents.
