What age should we make a poa

We are due to get married and I mention to OH that it's a good time to make our power of attorney.
He wasn't acceptable to this saying we're too young - nearing 40 - and you do it when you're in ill health.
I said that could be next week and too late, you need to do it when we have the capacity to do so.
At what age have you/would you make one?

Do you mean power of attorney?
Don't assume everyone knows what abbreviations stand for.
Never I should hope. There's a simple solution, get a joint account so you both have access to money.
It's like like you're going to be selling the house from under him if he got really ill is it?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Banks can freeze joint accounts when one signatory loses capacity.0 -
Sorry everyone, power of attorney - I've changed the first post.
I'm not sure how a joint account would help though? Surely that would just allow access to the account, not make health decisions etc?
I thought it was common to make it when you made your will, I may be wrong.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Make a POA at any age, it's then there should it ever be needed..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

That was my theory but OH doesn't want to make one until much older.
I will make mine, my dad is having such trouble at the moment and I wouldn't want my OH or DD to go through what he is. And I guess OH will leave it.
Just thought if others were around our age too he might see its not unusual, I guess the main thing for me is I know mine is in place.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Sorry to sound stupid but what exactly is one?Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Ask him to show you the guarantee he's been given that he will never be smashed into on the motorway and live, but with serious irreversible brain damage leaving him incapable of making decisions. That was my theory but OH doesn't want to make one until much older..................
